Abstract
Subject of research. Economic processes, tools and means of food security assessment of regions in Ukraine and the world. Purpose. Provide methodical approach to the assessment of food security in the regions of Ukraine. Methods. Systematic generalization – for the analysis of developments in determining the level of food security in the regions; comparative – for comparison of economic indicators; prognostication. Results. Methodical approach to the assessment of food security in the regions of Ukraine is proposed, which is based on the experience of the FAO, domestic approaches to national and food security. The assessment indicators include the following components: macroeconomic indicators of the national scale; socio-demographic situation in the region; quality of diet; physical availability of food and market capacity; economic availability of food; dependence on import suplies, raw material base. For a more weighted assessment, it is proposed to apply internal and international comparisons, indicators compared to the average in Ukraine and the norms recommended by the Ministry of Health. A significant discrepancy in the caloric content of food and the level of income was revealed; high level of inflation, insufficient consumption of meat and dairy products. Forecasts of consumption of food products for individual regions were made. To ensure food security in the regions of Ukraine, it is necessary to assess the need for food resources, the rationality of their use, outline the problems of food supply and ways to solve them. The main measures should be aimed at supporting food producers, improving the logistics of supply and distribution of food products, and supporting vulnerable sections of the population. It is necessary to create favorable conditions for investment and rational placement of production facilities. Scope of research results. The article is expected to be useful for specialists in food security and economic research, researchers, teachers, graduate students and students of higher educational institutions. The results can be used in further scientific studies of regional food security, food price containment mechanisms.
