Abstract
The subject of the research is a set of theoretical, methodological and applied provisions for the formation and functioning of food systems in the context of globalization. The purpose of the article is to systematize and generalize the conceptual aspects of the formation of modern food systems, to determine the features of the mechanisms of influence of their main functional components on sustainable development in the context of globalization. Methods. The results of the study were based on the use of: a retrospective analysis, grouping and generalization to study the evolution of approaches, indicators and signs of grouping of various types of food systems; economic-statistical, economic and comparative analysis to diagnose the status, trends, problems and prospects of food supply of rural and urban areas in developed countries and developing countries; induction and deduction, analysis and synthesis to justify the model of the economic mechanism of the food system and directions of food policy; graphic methods for visual display of the share of food production in creating added value of the manufacturing sector, etc. Results. A conceptual model of the organizational and economic mechanism of the food system has been developed, where the main structural element is the value chain, which represents the production unit and covers all types of activities related to the transformation of food products and their movement from producers to consumers. The mechanisms of the functioning and influence of the components of the food system on ensuring its sustainable development are disclosed. It is substantiated that the sustainable development of all the constituent elements of the food system, including the competitiveness of business entities, their access to markets and the population’s access to high-quality food products should provide state regulation measures aimed at the same time in three areas: economic, environmental and social. Scope of research results. The research results contain theoretical and methodological aspects that expand knowledge about the mechanisms of functioning of food systems in the context of globalization and sustainable development of value chains in these systems. The results can be used in further scientific research of urgent problems of the development of the agri-food sector by economic experts and all interested parties.
